Being a REAL Girl's Girl

Updated: Mar 19

Do any of us actually know what it means to be a "girl's girl"? In the first full episode of The Nourisher Podast, Megan and I explore the importance of building supportive communities among women, especially in the influencer world. We discuss the challenges of vulnerability, the impact of social media, and the need for authenticity in friendships.

The conversation emphasizes the power of kindness, the significance of uplifting one another, and the importance of self-love and intentionality in relationships. We also touch on the negative effects of criticism and the need to celebrate each other's successes.

I first met Megan when I became a Dillard's influencer last year (remember that short influencer stint I mentioned earlier?). I remember the whole OG group of Dillard's influencers was so intimidating to me, but Megan was one person that I was especially intimidated by. She's so tall, beautiful, and she had already been doing this for a while and built a pretty big following. Little did I know, Megan was also excited to meet me, because she had already been following me (whaaaaat). She's always pushed me to be myself, hyped me up when I lacked confidence, and given me guidance on how to successfully engage an audience. Megan is a great example of a person in my life who is a real girl's girl. That phrase gets thrown around a lot and we don't always put it into practice, but from day one, Megan has always helped and encouraged all of the newer influencers and content creators around her.

Check out some of the takeaways from this episode:

  • Building connections in the influencer world is essential.

  • Uplifting others creates a supportive environment.

  • Vulnerability is key to forming deeper relationships.

  • Women often feel alone and need to support each other.

  • Friendships should be based on mutual respect and encouragement.

  • Social media can amplify insecurities but also provide opportunities.

  • Criticism can be hard to handle, but it shouldn't define us.

  • Empathy is crucial in female relationships.

  • Intentional friendships can provide the support we need.

  • Women should empower each other instead of gossiping.

  • There is enough space for everyone to thrive in their niches.

  • Compliments should focus on personality and character, not just looks.

  • Being a 'real girl's girl' means supporting each other genuinely.

  • Community support is vital for individual and collective success.
